Second in our Portuguese marine life series, this pattern is a harmonious perspective of ocean life. At the center, a detailed sea anemone blooms out into reaching coral branches, surrounded by a full underwater scene with sea turtle, jellyfish, crab, shells, fish, and sweeping sea plants. This pattern uses a variety of embroidery stitches with fine needlework.

This pattern is a step-by-step guide to creating the embroidered piece and then finishing it into a hanging tapestry.

Pattern Name: O Mar Embroidery Pattern 

Finished Size: Designed for a 25 × 35 cm panel (approx. 13.7" x 17.7")

Stitches: Satin stitch, Darning stitch, Herringbone stitch, Stem stitch, Chain stitch, Knot stitch, and optional Bullion stitch.

Thread Recommendation: 2 strands of cotton embroidery floss (separated one by one from a 6-strand skein).

Thread Colors: 1Navy, 2Teal, 1Green, 1Sand (Ivory), 2Olive, 1Blue(Light)

What You Will Receive:

Full-Scale Pattern: Black-and-white illustration template conveniently divided into A4 sheets. Print at home, tape the sheets together, and you’re ready to go!

Stitch & Color Guide: An illustrated guide with diagrams, sequence steps, and exact stitch placement charts.

How it Works: Print the tiled A4 pages and tape them together to create the full-size template.

Transfer: Use carbon paper to transfer the design onto your fabric of choice.

Stitch: The central spirals are recommended to be made with satin stitch, where necessary, you can switch to stem stitch. You can also choose to make the spirals with an alternate method of embroidering them with angled stem stitch, illustrated in the file. Bottom right plant in the design is advised to be made in satin stitch, I experimented a little with raised bullion stitch to add texture to the leaves (See embroidery).
