21 Nov 2026 Phulkari Embroidery Workshop in Startup Barreiro
This workshop introduces participants to Phulkari, a traditional embroidery practice from the Punjab region. Using a large Phulkari Embroidery Kit by Wenlin Studio, participants will learn foundational stitches and techniques characteristic of Phulkari embroidery.
Gul will guide participants through the common stitches used in Phulkari and demonstrate how to begin working with the kit during the session at her studio at Startup Barreiro. The kit is designed to include all the necessary information to allow participants to continue and complete the embroidery at home.
By the end of the class, participants will gain an understanding of Phulkari embroidery, its origins, regional variations, and the factors contributing to its decline in contemporary practice.

About the Phulkari Kit:
This embroidery kit is inspired by Sainchi Phulkari, a vibrant folk embroidery tradition from Punjab, spanning both Pakistan and India. The word Sainchi roughly translates to “story,” and in the context of Phulkari, refers to narrative-rich embroideries depicting scenes from daily village life, folklore, and symbolic imagery. Known for its freestyle approach, Sainchi Phulkari fabrics are often dyed with Madder Roots, feature whimsical human and animal figures, embroidered with warm yellow tones with bright accents.
Kit Contents:
- 32 × 32 cm 100% cotton/linen panel, pre-drawn Sainchi Phulkari design
- 8 cotton embroidery skeins (6-strand): 3 Taupe (Beige), 2 Yellow, 1 Maroon, 1 Pink, 1 Blue
- Embroidery needles (for working with both 3-strand and 6-strand threads)

Our Artisanal Philosophy
Our products are handmade. Therefore, every single piece carries artisanal qualities. While executing embroideries, it is only natural that our artisans interpret the sketched designs in their own unique way, leaving a personal stamp on the product. We believe these slight variations make your piece one-of-a-kind and are a desirable trait of handmade luxury.
