Recycling Textile Waste with (Gindi) Kantha

In this post, we share some projects where we have recycled our leftover fabrics using Gindi (Kantha) embroidery and patchwork techniques from the Sindh province of Pakistan. This practice of upcycling torn and old clothing has been passed down for generations. While this method is known by many names across different cultures, in Sindh, it is traditionally called Gindi. The finished clothing is also commonly referred to as 'beggar's clothes' in the region.

Gul will teach a few classes on Visible Mending with Kantha (Gindi) and an Introduction to Kantha (Gindi) embroidery in Lisbon in the coming months. You can find more details about the workshops here.
